 Informal invalidity proceedings refer to non-litigious, cost-effective methods of challenging a patent’s validity without initiating formal legal action, such as a lawsuit or PTAB trial (e.g., IPR or PGR).  

An Inter Partes Review (IPR) is a USPTO trial to challenge a patent's validity.

 A Declaratory Judgment of Invalidation is a legal action where a party asks a court to declare a patent invalid before being sued for infringement. This is typically filed by a company or individual who believes a patent is invalid due to prior art, lack of novelty, obviousness..

 A Motion to Dismiss is a legal request asking a court to dismiss a case before it proceeds to trial. It is typically filed by the defendant in response to a plaintiff’s complaint and argues that the lawsuit should not continue due to legal deficiencies.
